A lot has been written on the topic of erotic humiliation. As a former submissive myself, I have read extensively on the topic. Rather than regurgitating what has already been written, I will attempt to discuss my view of erotic humiliation and, without giving away any of the fun, secret details, shed some light on its role in the Virtual Domination training protocol.

 

I view humiliation in the BDSM context as something that brings a man (I’m referencing men because I have never had the experience of being a submissive female) down to lower level; something that makes him feel like less than a man. This means that the concept of erotic humiliation is very relative. What makes one man feel humiliated will not necessarily make another man feel the same inadequate or “less than.” An easy example for me would be diaper play. I find adult diapers to be very humiliating. I’m almost as humiliated by the process of purchasing them as I am by wearing them. I am a grown man who knows how to use the bathroom, so putting on an adult diaper makes be seem week or like I am less than a man. If I were forced to be exposed in a room of (consenting) adults, I would much rather be completely naked than be seen wearing nothing more than a diaper. Still, I love humiliation, so the thought of being forced into a diaper for short periods of time is a major fantasy for me. There are, however, many people in this lifestyle who identify as adult babies. Many of them like diapers because of this identification. Those individuals would find the thought of being forced into a diaper much less humiliating than I would find that idea.

 

Wearing swim briefs is another example of this. There are countries in which it is quite normal for men to wear swimsuits that cover only the essential areas that, by law, must remain covered. Lifelong athletic swimmers, likewise, are often accustomed to donning skimpy swim briefs, often referred to as Speedos. For these individuals, being told to swim in those types of suits wouldn’t really be humiliating at all. For me, an Southern United States non-athletic man, wearing a swim brief essentially feels like I am wearing underwear. Being forced to wear a swim brief would essentially feel like that dream in which I am in public in my tighty whities without any way to find my clothes. Because of the cultural norms of the area in which I live, the thought of that experience is extremely humiliating.
